About James Warner
James Warner is the author of three collections of poetry from Makeless Press. The Orphans and other poems is the first of these. Welcome Fog and Beginningless will be available later in 2026. Since the 1980s his poems have appeared in literary magazines throughout Canada, as well as in Poetry (Chicago), and in the UK in Poetry Review, Stand Magazine, and The Dark Horse.
James was born in 1960 and grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering he eventually made a career as an executive in the field of engineering research and consulting, from which he retired in 2008. In the late 1980s he met Jean Klein, a European master of Advaita (non-dualism) and yoga, and studied with him for several years in Europe and America. In 2015, in India, James met the American teacher James Swartz and, subsequently in Chennai, Swami Paramarthananda Saraswati. From studying with them over a number of years, James learned the traditional teaching method of Advaita Vedanta, which he shares through private classes in Halifax.
